Source Protection

For journalists, source confidentiality is paramount. Whisper Web never transmits your audio — protecting whistleblowers, anonymous sources, and off-the-record conversations.

Live or Recorded

Transcribe in real-time during the interview using your microphone, or upload a pre-recorded file afterward. Both methods are completely private.

Multilingual Support

Conduct interviews in 100+ languages. Perfect for foreign correspondents, international research projects, and cross-cultural studies.

Timestamps for Citations

Every transcript segment includes precise timestamps, making it easy to cite specific quotes with their exact location in the recording.

Multiple Export Formats

Export as plain text for articles, SRT for video interviews, or VTT for web-based media. Copy and paste into your writing tool of choice.

Edit-Ready Output

The transcript gives you a solid first draft. Focus your time on editing and analysis rather than manual transcription.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this safe for confidential interviews?
Yes. Whisper Web processes audio entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. No audio data is ever transmitted to a server. This makes it suitable for confidential interviews, anonymous sources, and sensitive research subjects.
How accurate is the transcription for interviews?
Accuracy depends on audio quality. Clear, well-recorded interviews with minimal background noise produce excellent results. For best quality, use a dedicated microphone and record in a quiet environment. You should always proofread before publishing — especially for proper nouns and technical terms.
Can it handle interviews with accents?
Whisper is trained on a diverse dataset and handles most accents well. Very heavy accents or dialects may reduce accuracy, but the model generally performs well across English varieties and many other languages.
How long does transcription take?
With WebGPU (Chrome/Edge), a 1-hour interview typically takes 8-15 minutes. Without WebGPU, expect 20-40 minutes. Processing time depends on your device's capabilities.
Does it identify different speakers?
Currently, Whisper Web produces a single continuous transcript without speaker labels. You can manually add speaker identifiers after transcription. Speaker diarization is on the roadmap for a future update.
