MOV is the QuickTime container. iPhone camera clips, Mac screen recordings, and some camera or editor exports use it. The speech still has to be in an audio track the browser can decode, usually AAC. Whisper Web transcribes that track. It does not need a separate audio file.
Copy the .mov onto the computer you are using, then drop it on this page. A Photos shared album, an iCloud link, or an AirDrop handoff that never saved a file will not import. A public link works only when it is the video file itself.
Choose the spoken language and start. Review the timed draft and download TXT, Word, JSON, SRT, or VTT. If the tool cannot play the MOV, do not rename it to .mp4. Export a new H.264 file and upload that copy.
Common MOV sources
A .mov extension is a clue about the device, not a guarantee that every browser can play the file.
- iPhone and iPad camera video. Most Compatible mode is H.264 in a MOV and is the easier file to play. High Efficiency mode is often HEVC, which Chrome may refuse even though the Photos app plays it.
- QuickTime or Screenshot screen recordings on a Mac, which are often saved as MOV.
- Final Cut, iMovie, or a camera card that exported a QuickTime movie.
- A voice memo is usually M4A, not MOV. Transcribe that audio file on its own page rather than wrapping it in a video.
- Zoom cloud video is usually MP4. Use the MOV page for a QuickTime file you actually saved, and the MP4 page for the Zoom download.
A worked iPhone MOV example
An 8-minute interview filmed on an iPhone, interview-cafe.mov, was recorded with Settings, Camera, Formats set to Most Compatible. AirDrop or a cable copy puts the file on a laptop. The clip is under 20 minutes and under 200 MB, so it fits free browser transcription.
Drop interview-cafe.mov on this page, choose the language that was spoken, and start. When a name is wrong, select that timestamp, listen to the original, and edit the line before you download Word. If Chrome shows a blank player, the clip is probably HEVC. Export an H.264 movie from Photos or QuickTime, or open the original MOV in a browser that can play it, and transcribe the playable copy.
Files that are not MOV still start at video to text. This page is only the QuickTime path.
Free and Pro limits for MOV
Free transcription runs in your browser for a file up to 200 MB and 20 minutes. It does not require an account. A long event film or a high-bitrate camera original can pass either cap even when the other one still fits.
