Yes. Whisper Web processes audio entirely in your browser using WebGPU or WebAssembly. Zero audio data is transmitted to any server. This makes it suitable for confidential interviews, anonymous sources, whistleblower recordings, and sensitive research subjects.

OpenAI Whisper achieves a 4.2% word error rate on standard benchmarks — that's 95%+ accuracy on clear, well-recorded audio. For best results, use a dedicated microphone and record in a quiet environment. Always proofread before publishing — especially proper nouns, technical terms, and names.

Whisper is trained on a diverse dataset and handles most accents well. Very heavy accents or regional dialects may reduce accuracy, but the model generally performs well across English varieties and 100+ other languages.

With WebGPU (Chrome/Edge), a 1-hour interview typically takes 8–15 minutes. Without WebGPU, expect 20–40 minutes. A 30-minute interview processes in 3–5 minutes with WebGPU enabled.

Currently, Whisper Web produces a single continuous transcript without speaker labels (diarization). You can manually add speaker identifiers after transcription. Speaker diarization is on the roadmap for a future update.
