Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to transcribe a podcast episode?
Transcription speed depends on your device and the episode length. With WebGPU enabled (Chrome/Edge), a 30-minute episode typically takes 3-5 minutes. Without WebGPU, expect 8-15 minutes for the same length.
Can I transcribe podcast episodes with multiple speakers?
Yes, Whisper Web transcribes multi-speaker audio accurately. However, it currently provides a single transcript without speaker diarization (speaker labels). You can manually add speaker labels after exporting.
Is there a file size or length limit?
Since everything runs in your browser, the limit depends on your device's available memory. Most modern devices can handle episodes up to 2-3 hours without issues. For very long episodes, consider splitting them into segments.
What audio formats are supported?
Whisper Web supports all common audio formats: MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, WebM, and more. If your browser can play it, Whisper Web can transcribe it.
Is the transcript accurate enough for publishing?
Whisper provides good baseline accuracy for clear audio. For published show notes, we recommend a quick proofread — especially for proper nouns, technical terms, and brand names that the model may not recognize.
Does my podcast audio get uploaded to a server?
No. Zero data leaves your browser. The AI model runs entirely on your device using WebAssembly and WebGPU. There are no servers, no API calls, and no data collection. Your unreleased episodes stay completely private.
