Subtitle Converter

SRT and WebVTT are timed-text formats: the useful core is each cue's start time, end time, reading order, and caption text. This converter keeps that core where the target supports it, then makes a document or transcript when it does not. Start with the Subtitle Converter when you want the format detected before choosing an output.

ASS and SSA can carry style definitions, positioned text, override tags, effects, and karaoke timing. Whisper Web extracts readable Dialogue timing and text; those presentation controls are not preserved in SRT. Review overlaps after conversion when the source used positioning heavily. The Aegisub ASS documentation is a useful reference for the tags that need a source-file backup.

WebVTT is a web video caption format with a WEBVTT signature, optional cue identifiers, settings, NOTE/STYLE/REGION blocks, and inline markup. In VTT to SRT, cue timing and text are kept, identifiers become SRT sequence numbers, and settings plus NOTE/STYLE/REGION blocks are omitted. Inline markup can remain in the output, so player rendering may vary. See the MDN WebVTT guide for the browser format model.

SAMI files can contain more than one language class. This converter does not choose a language track: when a file contains more than one distinct non-empty P Class, prepare a single-Class file before uploading. Microsoft documents the SAMI format as a synchronized-caption interchange format.

Text MicroDVD .sub files use frame numbers instead of clock times. Supply an FPS value or include it as {1}{1}FPS in the file; Whisper Web does not guess a default frame rate. Picture-based VobSub SUB/IDX is a different format and requires OCR, which this text converter does not provide.

MPL2 stores start and end values in tenths of a second, uses | for line breaks, and can mark italics that become plain text here. That makes it suitable for a timing-preserving conversion, but not for preserving its visual styling.

For oTranscribe, export plain TXT with an MM:SS or H:MM:SS timestamp at the start of each line or paragraph. Markdown and .otr project files are not accepted. Learn more about oTranscribe before preparing an export.

A batch can expand to 50 files. Each selected file or ZIP entry is limited to 5 MB, a ZIP upload to 25 MB, and the expanded text total to 50 MB. A damaged or unsafe ZIP fails as one package; separately selected subtitle files can still finish. When two or more files succeed, download them together as a ZIP.

Use SRT to Text for a clean reading transcript without cue numbers or timing. Use DOCX or PDF when a reviewer needs an editable or printable document; keep the original SRT or VTT alongside it when you may need to return to a video player.
